Our story

Play & Learn Home Child Care is a state licensed home daycare located in the Norwood Park neighborhood of Chicago. Play & Learn was established in 2013 by myself, Nicole Selvaggio, mom to an awesome 12 year old son and 6 year old daughter. Here, we strive to provide a warm, loving, caring 'home away from home' atmosphere where children can play, learn and grow. We are constantly looking for new and fun ways to help the children grow mentally, physically and emotionally. While play is the best way for children to learn and grow, we also introduce crafts and sensory projects, so that all age groups can learn through different outlets. We find great importance in open communication with parents, in an effort to create a team to help the child flourish.

About the owner/director: nicole

I have had 5 years experience of working in a daycare center atmosphere, while attending college. After receiving my Bachelors of Business Administration, with concentration in marketing and hospitality management, I spent 6 years in the hotel industry where I started at the front desk department and eventually moved up to become an Event Manager on the Sales & Events team. After having my son in 2011, I decided it was important for me to find a way to be able to work, yet spend as much time as possible with my little guy. I was very fortunate to have a best friend who had been running a home daycare herself for a number of years, in which I worked for, for 2 years. After seeing how rewarding the idea of helping families with childcare was, and enjoying watching/helping children learn and grow, (all while having the oppurtunity to be with my son the entire day) - I decided running a home daycare myself would be a perfect fit. I found a great location, had the backing and advice of my friend who had been successfully running her home daycare, and had the support of my family. While undergoing all of the DCFS requirements and paperwork, I spent a year watching 3 children and perfecting the home daycare atmosphere. Once I was officially licensed through the state of Illinois, I began to find families in my community who were in need of childcare and have been lucky enough to have had children in my daycare for longterm periods of time. I enjoy spending the days with children that I have watched grow from tiny infants to energetic toddlers, while also continuing to watch my son grow into a school age child.
